“I can’t think of a single thing to write about today,” I grumbled.

That was the signal for my muse to appear. She was in a bad mood as well. “Why do you have to write today? You woke me up from a nice nap, you know.”

“But today is Valentine’s day. It’s sort of mandatory to write a poem at least!”

“Says who? What if you really have nothing to write about? You don’t have a valentine; you are not going out for dinner or whatever. No one is going to give you gifts. So what the hell do you want to write about?”

“You are supposed to inspire me,” I yelled back at her.”Not make me feel worse!”

“Ohkay! Faine! So you have to write about love? Any love?”

“Yes! Wait a minute. What do you mean by any love?”

“I mean it does not have to be romantic love, no? You can write about loving yourself.”

“Done that last year already!’

“Then what about the things that you love?”

“ Like what?”

“Raindrops on roses, puppies and kittens and that sort of thing.”

“Hmm…”

And just like that this is what I wrote. I hope you like it.

I look around for my muse, but she has disappeared again. Ah well, as long as she appears the next time I want her, I think I’ll let her sleep. It seems like one of the things she loves best.

  1. haha, what a dramatic muse – she is a queen! I liked your list of thing you love, i love a lot of them too… taking this moment to appreciate them 🙂

  2. And just like that… 🙂 Very nice.

It’s said, and I do believe it, that the muse knows when we are serious and when we’re not. It won’t just “show up” and hit us over the head with a lightning flash of inspiration. We have to PROVE, first, that we are willing to put in the work.

      1. I bet it does! Considering the number of times we ignore the muse when it knocks on our door, we owe it to our muse to at least try to write. I am so happy to read your posts, Sunita. ♥️
