Today I was catching up on the posts of my fellow bloggers and there was a common thread running through most of the posts.
The situation in the country is indeed dire. Dementors are having a field day spreading despair and desperation all around. Anxiety and depression seems to be the norm these days.
As I read these posts I was reminded of a story from the Bible. Sodom and Gomorrah had become places of vice and sin and God wanted to destroy them. When He told Abraham of His plan, Abraham pleaded with Him to save the cities if there were at least fifty good people in it. Unfortunately there were not even ten good people in it and so God destroyed both the cities.
Today it looks as if our world, our country is being destroyed but if we ask God to spare it if it has good people in it, He will have no choice but to spare it.
Never before have we seen such an outpouring of help from people.
Not just friends and neighbours, but strangers are also coming forward to help. Whether it is with food, or prayers or trying to arrange for beds and oxygen, the true heart of the nation is visible. Social media specially twitter is doing a wonderful job in helping people reach out and make a difference.
The posts that I was reading also spoke of all this. This thread of hope. This tricke of love and compassion that is growing bigger day by day. Yes, it is born out of anger and frustration but it has not remained at that level. It has taken the form of a patronus to help us fight if not defeat the dementors.
That is the wonder of the common man in India. That is the true essence of what we are. We just need to remember our true power and not allow ourselves to be frightened off by the boggarts around.
so true Sunita, things are starting to look better in June but its not easy to move out of the pain and suffering, the loss we suffered. The ray of hope was of course the help that came along and made us believe that goodness is not lost
Focus on those angels. A crisis always brings out both the best and the worst in people; reward the good, ignore the bad as much as possible.
The problem with the silver linings always found in the immediate heat of a crisis is that the angels are worn down. They become tired, burnt out, and their hearts fill with despair. Then cynicism and anger take root, like weeds. Kindness fades. Nurture it where you find it – that’s all I can offer. Nurture it, and do what you can to bolster it before it gives up in exhaustion and grief.
Thanks for this. I needed the reminder this week. Hugs!
Yes, you’re right. There are so many angels out there, putting their lives at risk in the midst of these dark times. Thanks for the reminder, Sunita.
Yes, there are angels all around. In the most unexpected places too.
Isn’t it amazing how the common man has stepped in for one another, in these desperate times, Sunita? That’s the true power we still wield, despite power-hungry politicians who continue to make a mockery of what a leader should be. Anger, frustration, hopelessness and tears come to us by turns, while we pick up the pieces of our lives.
The future looks dark with such inept leadership at the helm, but we don’t really have a choice, do we?
We do have a choice, but that will take some time. Right now we need to deal with the Covid situation and hopefully soon we will have the time and energy to address the other issues.
I would hope that, realizing this, we could make corrupt leaders superfluous – irrelevant – and take from them any “power” and “authority” they have to make life worse. There are good leaders, and they lead by example. You’ll know them by the calm and reasonably happy, healthy people they govern. But there are too many with their hands fisted round the cookies in the cookie jar – slam the lid down before they eat them all.
Praise And Glory to Jesus
I would rather say Praise and Glory to the humane spirit that has helped this. It is us human beings who have discovered the angel within us and have stepped up to do what needs to be done.
