Today I read the list of prompts on the  thefrangipanicreative.com. I was struck by the coincidence of two things. One, it’s Women’s Day on the 8th of March and two, it’s World Poetry Day on the 21st of March.

When I published my first book of poems, “Who Shall I Be Today”, on the 8th of March, 2016, I did so because it was Women’s Day; but it never occurred to me that March was also linked to poetry.

Who Shall I be today?

My book of poems celebrates all that I am as a woman. In fact for me, being a woman and poetry are so interwoven, that it’s one and the same. I have been writing poems since the age of 13, and my poems were right besides me through my teenage angst of unrequited crushes and rebellion against the world.

As I grew up, they reflected my many moods and emotions, my love, my hate, my helplessness and my joy. They hugged me through marriage, motherhood and loss.

They gave me solace and more important they gave me strength and helped me find myself.

The reviews that my book got both amazed me and made me realise that I write really well!

I know  I am showing off here, but here are some of the things that other women said :

“Poems are so realistic and without sounding feminist, they just express a woman’s daily thoughts and views of life. They also express the happiness, pain, joy and awesomeness of living a woman’s life… Loved it”    –   Amazon Customer

“The poems in Who Shall I be Today explore varied emotions. Independence, Companionship, Fighting depression, Pain, Nostalgia, Love, Death, Motherhood, Work, Writing and more.It is a celebration of the many roles that a woman plays”. – Nimi Arora

“The theme around which these poems revolve is the life of a woman. Each poem, meticulously penned down, touches the nuances of the life of a woman in an impressive manner. The title itself coaxes one to think and cogitate upon one’s existence. As you read the poems, your answers find you”.  – Khyati Gautam

This month it will be seven years since I published my first book. Since then I have published two more books, one a book of prose and poems of my journey as a mother , “The Heart Of A Mother” and the other a fantasy romance, “Love and Curses”. Both received such awesome reviews, that I wonder why I don’t write so much anymore.

Thank you Shalini R for these prompts that helped me remember the joy I got writing.
