This year I have tried to get out of my comfort zone and one of the things I have always uncomfortable about was writing for other people’s blogs or asking them to be a guest on my blog. Thanks to Shalzmojo, I got a chance to change that with her DecGP2020, where she has bloggers sending her guest posts for her blog and she does the same for them. I took the plunge and here is her post for my blog. It is the first guest post ever on my blog .

3 Reading Apps that work for me

Technology is a great leveler in every sphere of human life and more so in the life of a book worm like me. I love to read and have an aversion to wasting time while waiting in queues of any sort. Carrying a physical book can add burden to an already loaded up handbag. Not to mention the pain it is to read standing up in a line. So with the advent of bookish apps, I have finally converted myself into an e-reader (albeit a little reluctantly).

I still haven’t graduated to buying a Kindle but with the new smart phones, I feel this need is fast vanishing. The largish screen size ensures a good sized reading space and so I have these 3 apps downloaded on my Android phone. The best part is that they have great offers and variety which can fulfill any pocket and reading sensibility. And a phone goes everywhere with me regardless of where I am going. So I always have my current reads with me without any special reminders to carry them.

1.Audible

Audible is an audio book app by Amazon and I had joined it when the offer was to try it free for three months. I had been able to download some free books from their awesome selection but it took a while for me to take to it. The hardest part I found about a audio book is keeping concentration in time with the reading voice. Audible gives you one credit every month for a monthly subscription of 199/- INR and you can swap your already downloaded books for free. The one credit can be exchanged for a book of your choice. I found it very useful for non-fiction as well as Autobiographical books. It’s compatible with both Apple and Android.

2.Amazon Kindle reader

This app is basically a very practical version of the Kindle for Amazon Prime subscribers who get loads of free books to download every month. The app allows one to store 5 books at a time and one can simply delete or return the book to make room for another one. Also Kindle books bought through Amazon can be downloaded on this app and read with great ease. It’s compatible with both Apple and Android.

3.Scribd

This is an American app for e-books and audio books which boasts of having over a million books. Scribd offers a free trial of first 30 days, post which you can subscribe it at about 9 USD per month. It’s slightly more expensive than the other two but trumps over them in the range of diverse books available there. It’s compatible with both Apple and Android.

There you have it. These are the three reading apps which have greatly sorted out my reading speed and diversity and without burning a hole in my pocket. So what did you think of them? Which are your favorite apps? Share some with me please!

This post is linked with the #GPDec2020 hosted by Shalzmojo every December where a cross posting collaboration is worked out between several bloggers for the entire month. Check out my guest post on their blog here

  1. I love Kindle and have Kindle apps on my phone and laptop too. I have heard many books on Audible, but only a few have been a good listening experience. I believe in an audio book, the narrator plays a very important role and I have picked some books with poor narrators. Will try Scribd.

  2. I tried Audible and yeah, it is a great app. Had to discontinue as I couldn’t find enough time. Hopefully sometime in future I will get back to it. Haven’t tried Scribd yet.
