This morning I woke up to the thought, “The month is more than half over and I have not yet got up my post on “My Word Of The Year!” And so I decided to finally sit down and sort out the confusion in my head.
I have loved the concept of WOTY ever since Corinne Rodrigues introduced me to it a couple of years ago. My first word of the year was “Me” followed by “Transformation” last year. It was easy coming up with these words because it was clear that these had to be my areas of focus. But that was not the case this year. What the last two years showed me was that there were two things I needed to address if I was to transform into a better me.
Consistency v/s health
On the one hand, I realised that for anything to work, there had to be consistency, and I am anything but consistent! I think that I ran away when God was distributing the quality of discipline.
On the other hand, no matter how much I want to do stuff, if I am not in good health, I just cannot do much. Over the last year itself, I was held back a lot because of my health.
As the saying goes, “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” So after a lot of thought, this year I have decided to strengthen the flesh.
While I will not neglect my emotional health, my focus is going to be my physical health and that means I will visit my psychiatrist and counsellor regularly, but my eye of the parrot will be my body.
This I have divided into Food, Sleep and Exercise which means I must put certain habits and practices in place to ensure that my plan works.
Food:
1. Schedule a day to plan the week’s menu and go grocery shopping.
2. Prep the food. Take half a day to do this; preferably on the same day as I do the grocery shopping.
3. Set an alarm so that I eat my food on time.
4. Don’t let food go to waste because I have forgotten to eat it.
5. Include lots of salads and fruits and protein in my menu. Cut down on sugars and carbs.
6. Drink 8 glasses of water.
Sleep:
1. Make sure I get 8 hours of sleep every night 9.30 pm to 5.30 am.
2. Stop using electronic devices after 8 pm.
3. Take my meds on time.
4. Darken the room and lights off.
5. Drink water before sleeping.
Exercise:
This is important because this is where I run away. I tend to skip this because I am either undisciplined or lazy. So
1. Yoga 5 days a week.
2. Walk 45 minutes, 5 days a week.
3. Dance 1 hour, twice a week.
If I follow this, I hope to greet the next year in a slimmer trimmer avatar.
What is your word of the year? I would love to hear about it.
Good Luck with your health goals, Sunita 🙂
Loved your clear approach of breaking down every aspect of fitness into actionable steps.
Thank you!
“I think that I ran away when God was distributing the quality of discipline.”
Thank you
I really liked the way you listed your actionables that too based on priority. Looking forward to see a more healtheir you next year with a new word
Thank you!
I like how you’ve listed down the actionables in different areas. With these clear cut mini goals, I am sure you achieve your larger goal of health and fitness. Wishing you a healthy and fit 2020, Sunita. Cheers
Thank you Shilpa
I’ve realized too that health is of prime importance! Good luck to you with your health, Sunita. Be well.
Thank you Corinne
It is great that you are prioritizing your health Sunita. It is very easy to stray away from taking care of oneself and be caught up, in well, life! I’ve been in bad health all of ’19 so I totally get the importance of this. Your goal seems doable and I wish you all the success in achieving it.
Thanks Kala
Our health is of utmost importance if we wish to do anything in life. I am so glad you chose health this year, and have made a list of things you need to focus on. Wish you the best, Sunita!
My word of the year is also wellness, where I look after my overall health, physical, emotional and mental health. Discipline is something you WILL need if you wish to change your habits, and you need to be a bit strict with yourself. You are only answerable to yourself, no other person will get affected if you slip off the track. So do keep a close watch on yourself! ;P
Kudos. For me too I’m pushing my Health goals away. All the best to you.
For me this year’s word : Conscious.
Conscious of myself, my thoughts, actions, feelings, the time I spend on gadgets, the time I waste, the reasons why I shout at the kids, the reason why I get upset, the reason why I criticise hubby & kids,….
Basically understand what’s inside of Me & why I do things the way I do. Try to improve myself.
That is a nice word to work on for the year.
I am so glad you are putting your health first . It is very important to be healthy to enjoy the other aspects of life . My WOTY is detach/ distance which I need to do to prevent myself from doing impulsive things .
That may be partof my next year’s woty
