I make New Year resolutions every year. This year I decided to make a New Year’s resolution today, because isn’t today the new year for our country?
“So what resolution do I really want to make?” I pondered as I sipped my tea. To be truthful there are so many things I want to do or I want to resolve to do.
A) I want to write bravely
B) I want to fight vociferously for justice and freedom
C) I want to look after the earth and all the living things in India
D) I want to be kind and accepting of all my fellow Indians, no matter what class, caste, religion or sex. (Not that I believe in caste or religion)
As I looked at my list I realised, I am too scared to write what is truly in my heart or loudly proclaim what is wrong.
But what I can do, is look after my “desh ki dharti”.
I can be a responsible citizen by ensuring that I do my level best not to pollute the earth , the water and the air. I can say “NO” to plastic and make sure to use biodegradable material as far as possible.
I can segregate my dry and wet waste and recyle the former so that it doesn’t end up in landfills. I can use the wet waste to make compost for my plants. I can grow more plants, even if it is on my tiny window sill.
I can try to persuade others to do the same.
Be kind to everyone
I can let love be my guiding light while dealing with others and realising that it is differences that add colour to our life and make it beautiful.
I can’t change or stop the injustice and other things that take away our freedom, but I can do a little bit to make my little part of India a better place.
What resolution are you going to make for India’s New Year?
If you had to make a resolution today, what would it be? Do share it. I would love to know!
Yes, there’s so many small things we can do to make a difference. Seems like we’re on the same page with this! ♥
Well said. Superbly expressed. Direct Dil se..
Thank you Kameshwari.
Beautiful write-up and message. Never thought of the day from this perspective. Thanks for sharing something different!
Thank you Rutu. There are so many small ways we can make our country, our world a better place. We may not be able to do the big things that we would like to do, but we can do the small things to make life sweet, as the poem goes.
