Outside my window
It stands outside my window
A silent sentinel
“Silent, did you say?”
The leaves rustle in the breeze
Annoyed.
Suddenly a voice scolds me
“Where is my breakfast?
Chiri chiri chiri”
A handful of peanuts
And the squirrel scampers off.
“Caw! Caw! And me?”
Here’s your piece of chicken,
You hungry crow.
“It’s not for me.
Don’t you see
My fledgelings in the nest?”
And a new sound
Chirping and tweeting
A pair of bulbuls
She playing hard to get
And he trying his level best
To woo her.
The wind comes by once again
To whisper to the leaves
And to me
The secrets of places
It has been
To people it has seen
Of its talks with the clouds
And its dance with the rainbow.
Just outside my window
It stands
Bringing me joy
Bringing me friends
Shielding me from the other humans
Who live in the house opposite.
Keeping me safe
In my own beautiful world.

You are so kind. i loved this poem and more so the fact that you provide for who you can. Good one, Sunita. Thank you for joining #WordsMatter.
what a lovely imagery! Loved the smooth flow of rhymes 🙂
What a beautiful world you have outside your window!! I would so love to sit and gaze through your window, everyday!
So lucky you are and so are your friends. Lovely poem.
A lone tree, and yet not so lonely with it 🙂 Loved your observations!
While reading the poem I could actually visualize the nature outside your window 🙂
You are so blessed to have birds waking you up! Nice poem
Thank you.
Oh this is beautiful. The view outside your window sounds so calming. I love waking up to swaying trees and the life within them. We recently shifted to a new house and rather than pigeons and mynahs in our old one we have more bulbuls and sparrows here. It’s the best feeling.
They really cheer up up , don’t they?
What a beautiful poem it is. I just imagined the whole scene. How blissful.
Have never read a more beautiful ode to a tree! Great writing Sunita and I’d say you are blessed to have one on your window
I am blessed. It is such a source of joy to see all those creatures living so happily together in one place.
It’s an awesome feeling when you have birds, sparrows, squirrels, outside your window.
I too feed birds and keep water for them, It’s wonderful feeling to see them on your terrace.
Lovely poem describing the simple pleasures of life.
Yes, it is a lovely feeling!
First of all, so sweet of you to care and provide food for them. It must be a bliss to experience and feel all that. I loved the poem and the way you connected everything.
Thank you Keerthi. It gives me a lot of peace just standing at the window watching those beautiful creatures living and letting others live.
OMG how wonderful it must be to have these little creatures stop by an visit you. And how grateful they are for the food you give them. It must be truly gratifying to have such pleasant company Sunita.
I think they give me so much more than I give them!
I know how much you love Nature and all creatures and can just imagine you ‘mothering’ these.
Yes, It gives me peace and joy. They all come and create a havoc if I don’t spend some time with them!
I know how much you love Nature and animals and I could just imagine this scene. Beautifully written.
Lovely poem Sunita. I could visualise the scene outside vividly.
Thank you , Balaka
Beautiful. I liked the chattering of the squirrels, the crow and the bulbuls. What fun it must be! The perspective about all the places the wind has been to and seen is interesting.
Thank you. It really feels as if the wind is talking to the leaves when if rustles through them no?
What a world exists outside our windows, and here we are, not moving our eyes away from our gadgets!
Thanks Sunita, for this beautiful poem!
We give up the living for the machines. Sad but true.
